Investigations and Specialized Services
CUPD has a detective section that will focus on cases that require additional investigative work that a patrol officer may not be able to dedicate by the end of their shift.Ìý The types of cases that detectives will generally investigate are reports of fraud and scams, on-going and repeated thefts, sexual assaults, threatening or concerning behavior, among other high profile cases. Detectives work closely with campus partners to ensure that cases are given the appropriate resources and support that 91´«Ã½ prioritizes.ÌýÌýÌý
CUPD has welcomed its first four teams of K-9 officers: Harlow, Dax, Ellie and Ragnar.Ìý All CUPD K-9 are exclusively trained in explosive detection and are very active with all the special events that are held across the 91´«Ã½ campus each year.Ìý
Boulder is a proud bike city. As such, CUPD has officers certified to patrol on mountain bikes and e-bikes. Having officers on bikes allows quicker response through crowds and on the bike paths, as well as promoting community engagement with our fellow bikers and students on campus.
Training is a foundational priority for CUPD.Ìý CUPD offers a diverse range of training for our employees, from classroom lecture style to hands-on dynamic training. CUPD training focuses on trauma-focused victim-centered approaches, de-escalation, mental illness recognition, leadership and professional development. In accordance with Colorado Post rules, CUPD completes annual firearms qualification and mandated skills-based training to include: defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, and firearms training.Ìý ÌýÌý
