Civil Engineering
English -5 Spanish -4 (Colorado Seal of Biliteracy)
I have had a few study abroad trips, focusing on the Spanish language. I have traveled with my school to central San Jose in Costa Rica, Oaxaca Mexico. Both these trips accelerated my Spanish studdies and showed me two different cultures. In Mexico my teachers saw how responsible I was so I was able to freely explore, witch helped me learn how to make safe decisions. Learning Spanish throughout High School taught me a new way of thinking and gave me insights to how my brain works.
Different places have different problems, laws, cultures and solutions. Learning form around the world can add to the way we approach problems, and consider different outcomes. In Oaxaca Mexico were I studied for a short school "interim" I witnessed the extreme drought and the creative solutions people made in order to have water. Water towers on top of buildings, roof gutters draining into tanks, storage fountains for water storage when the city water was turned on. I also saw large Infrastructure projects and their struggles with balancing environmental protection, indigenous land protection. As a future engineer it is important to consider all the factors like these when designing and planing anything.
I want to join Global Engineering to be in a community that values all perspectives, while also staying focused on education. I believe our environment has a profound impact on our actions, so being surrounded by academically and global oriented peers will help motivate me to excel in my studies. I plan to contribute in the way I feel like I contribute to my current school community, that is by showing up in a respectful, manner with an eagerness to learn and understand.
