Application and selection process

Applications must be received by the March 1 deadline.

A selection committee will review all applications, select a minimum of ten candidates to be interviewed, and recommend five candidates for the fellowship. Applicants will be notified of selection around May 1.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is March 1 at 11:59pm (MST).

Fellowship Year

The fellowship begins in mid-August with a week's orientation prior to classes beginning and continues into early-May.

Eligibility

Five Ted Scripps Fellowships are awarded each year. The fellowship is open to full-time journalists working in any medium who are interested in advancing their knowledge of environmental issues. It is aimed at outstanding journalists committed to a career in professional journalism.

Applicants must have five years of full-time professional journalism experience and must also have a BA or BS college degree, at minimum. Applicants may include reporters, editors, producers, and other types of journalists working across all media. Both salaried staff and full-time freelancers are welcome to apply. Prior experience in covering the environment is not required.

*Applicants must hold a current visa and be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application to be considered for this position; international journalists are welcome to apply if they meet this criteria.
