91��ý is proud to announce the first recipients of the Community Belonging Awards, a new campuswide honor recognizing exceptional contributions by students, staff and faculty to fostering belonging within and across 91��ý communities.

The Community Belonging Awards were established this spring at the recommendation of CU Student Government, with the endorsement of the Boulder Faculty Assembly, Staff Council and the Graduate and Professional Student Government. The awards celebrate individuals whose actions help others on campus feel seen, valued and supported—whether through teaching, leadership, service, collaboration or quiet, behind-the-scenes care. Together, they reflect a shared commitment to recognizing the meaningful ways belonging is built across campus.

“These awards reflect both who we are and who we are striving to become as a campus,” said Chancellor Justin Schwartz. “The recipients of our first Community Belonging Awards remind us that meaningful change happens when people lead with care and a deep commitment to shared community.”

The four recipients—one undergraduate student, one graduate or professional student, one staff member and one faculty member—were selected for their demonstrated, meaningful impact on fostering belonging within a specific 91��ý community or across campus more broadly. This work has included efforts that strengthen connection and inclusion, advance social justice, or support one or more of 91��ý’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Each recipient receives a one-time monetary award of $5,000.

Recipients were selected by four separate committees, one for each award category, representing shared governance groups and campus partners. “We received nominations from students, staff and faculty in departments and offices across the university,” said Senior Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives Ann Schmiesing, who oversaw this year’s process.

“I am deeply inspired by the creativity, generosity and commitment shown by all four inaugural recipients,” Schwartz said. “They are models for all of us—showing how powerful individual actions can be in shaping a campus where everyone feels they belong.”

The Community Belonging Awards will be presented annually to recognize and elevate the people whose actions strengthen connection, care and community across 91��ý.

Disco Lines is coming home, and 91��ý is hosting two nights of live music on Farrand Field this Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18. Whether you’ve got tickets or just plan to be on or near campus, here’s what you need to know before the beats drop.

Event details

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on both nights. This is a ticketed concert; you must have a valid ticket to enter Farrand Field. The concerts will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. each night.

Safety and security

Everyone entering Farrand Field will pass through a security screening before entering the stadium. Use these tips to understand what to bring (and what to leave at home) and what to do in case of a weather delay, evacuation or emergency.

CU’s clear‑bag policy will be enforced:

Clear bags only, up to 12" x 6" x 12"
Small purses allowed (max 4.5" x 6.5"), subject to inspection
Medically necessary bags are permitted and inspected

In the event of a weather delay or evacuation, listen carefully and follow any instructions provided audibly from the stage.

No bottles or containers, flags on poles or sticks, unapproved signs or banners, artificial noisemakers, inflatable balls, balloons or other prohibited items will be allowed on Farrand Field.

Need help? Know who to call

Call CU Police Department’s non-emergency line at 303-492-6666 for activities that violate campus use policies but do not pose an immediate threat to life or safety.
Call 911 if someone is experiencing a medical emergency, is unresponsive, is engaged in a crime or is displaying behavior that is a threat to themselves or others.
Call the concert complaint line at 303‑492‑6222 for immediate event-related concerns.

91��ý is committed to continuously improving our violence prevention and education efforts to meet the needs of the campus community. We encourage a campuswide culture of reporting through the Don’t Ignore It website. Anonymous tips can also be reported through 91��ý Safe2Tell.

Getting around campus

If you’re heading to the show, or just trying to get around campus, plan ahead. Expect heavy traffic, especially during arrival and departure windows, including along U.S. 36 and around campus.

Parking lots open at 3:30 p.m. No public parking will be allowed in the lots around Euclid Avenue. Impacted permit holders should look out for an email from Parking and Transportation with information about parking impacts alternative parking locations.

Even if you’re skipping the show, you may still notice changes around campus:

Increased foot traffic near Farrand Field

What is black and gold and sweet all over?

Meet Buffalo Chip—91��ý’s first-ever officially licensed ice cream flavor, created in partnership with Colorado favorite Sweet Cow.

Launched April 6 at all seven Sweet Cow locations across Boulder, Denver and beyond, Buffalo Chip is more than just dessert—it’s a celebration of 91��ý’s 150th anniversary. The flavor was crafted with input from students and alumni, blending nostalgia and innovation into one delicious scoop.

So, what’s inside? A rich brown sugar butter ice cream swirled with dark chocolate and butterscotch chips. The black-and-gold chip combination is a nod to CU’s iconic colors, where the butterscotch honors 150 years of history and the dark chocolate adds a bold, modern twist. In short: It’s Buff pride in a cone.

MooMobile on campus April 14

The Sweet Cow MooMobile will be at Koenig Alumni Center (1202 University Ave.) from noon until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, serving $1.50 scoops.

“Buffalo Chip is a joyful, delicious tribute to 91��ý’s 150-year story,” said Chancellor Justin Schwartz. “It reflects the creativity of our students, the dedication of our alumni and the deep connections that make this university such a vital part of Colorado.”

The partnership is personal for Sweet Cow founder Drew Honness, a 91��ý history alum who got his start scooping ice cream as a student. Today, Sweet Cow is a Colorado staple, known for its long lines, signature stickers and community vibe. Many Buffs have worked at Sweet Cow over the last 16 years, making this collaboration a natural fit.

And here’s the sweetest part: A portion of Buffalo Chip sales will support 91��ý scholarships, helping future students chase their dreams. The flavor is also joining Sweet Cow’s lineup of 10 core flavors, complete with a custom black-and-gold menu placard.

“Being able to create a flavor that celebrates CU’s 150th anniversary and gives back to students feels like everything coming full circle,” Honness said. “We hope Buffalo Chip becomes a favorite for Buffs everywhere.”

The second annual Colorado Climate Week, which took place May 30–April 3, brought together leaders across the state to explore solutions, partnerships and bold ideas shaping the future of climate action and innovation. On April 1, 91��ý hosted a full day of panels, presentations and discussions at the Limelight Hotel Boulder in partnership with event organizer Colorado Cleantech Industries Association.

A guiding framework for 91��ý’s sustainability future

Chancellor Justin Schwartz opened the day by introducing 91��ý’s new sustainability strategic framework, an ambitious roadmap that connects education, research, operations and partnerships into a unified approach to sustainability leadership.

During his remarks, the chancellor noted, “Education, research, operations and partnerships are interconnected and reinforcing. That’s the vision 91��ý is preparing to achieve. It is ambitious but grounded in the work already underway and in the people who make it possible.”

Both the event and the strategic framework build on 91��ý’s ongoing momentum in the sustainability space and the university's efforts to expand its sustainability work in ways that benefit the campus community, Boulder and Colorado.

Vice Chancellor for Sustainability Andrew Mayock said, “This event reflects 91��ý’s deep commitment to advancing climate and sustainability solutions through collaboration. We were joined on the stage by top private, public and nonprofit leaders from across the state on the most pressing issues, including artificial intelligence, wildfire, climate-related economic impacts, community rights, climate tech innovation and more. We were grateful to be joined by hundreds of audience members, including Boulder residents, state and local officials, investors, students, faculty and the broader Colorado community.”

Moving the needle with conversation and partnership

The day featured a series of panels and discussions that explored the intersection of technology, policy and investment in climate solutions.

A standout moment was the session with Seth Levine, partner and co-founder of Foundry, who offered insights into how evolving models of capitalism are shaping climate innovation.

The day included separate policy discussions with Democratic candidates Attorney General Phil Weiser and Sen. Michael Bennet on their respective climate-related visions for the state going forward. Gov. Jared Polis and Congressman Joe Neguse closed out the day by highlighting the critical role of public leadership in accelerating climate action.

The event concluded with a lively networking reception, where students, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders connected and continued conversations sparked throughout the day.

A statewide effort, a shared future

Now in its second year, Colorado Climate Week reflects the state’s growing reputation as a hub for climate innovation and partnership. 91��ý’s leadership, and its newly launched sustainability framework, positions the university at the center of this momentum.

Through continued collaboration across disciplines and sectors, the discussions shared on April 1 signals not just talk but a commitment to action.

91��ý will host senior facilities and infrastructure leaders from universities across the United States and Canada April 9–10 for the West Region Higher Education Facilities Forum, a peer network focused on advancing campus infrastructure, capital planning and sustainability. The annual gathering will bring higher education facilities leaders together to exchange best practices, lessons learned and explore practical solutions.

As the 2026 host, 91��ý will share updates on campus initiatives, including space optimization, sustainability and decarbonization efforts, facilities operations and capital construction, through presentations, campus tours and peer roundtable discussions.

“Bringing peer institutions together will create valuable opportunities to share lessons learned and accelerate progress on complex challenges like campus decarbonization and infrastructure modernization,” said Chris Ewing, vice chancellor for infrastructure and resilience. “These conversations will help universities develop practical strategies that strengthen facilities operations today while preparing campuses for the future.”

The forum’s peer-focused format will foster open exchange and relationship-building among institutions facing similar operational challenges. By convening the group, 91��ý will support regional collaboration aimed at advancing more efficient, sustainable and forward-looking campuses.

Hosting the forum will reflect 91��ý’s continued commitment to sharing knowledge, learning from peer institutions and advancing infrastructure solutions that benefit the campus community and higher education more broadly.

Senior facilities and infrastructure leaders will gather on campus to share strategies related to decarbonization, capital planning and campus operations.
