About the Film:Ìý
DAUGHTER OF THE LIGHT illuminates life in a Tibetan boarding school for orphans. It follows the quest for belonging by 13-year-old Metok Karpo to find her father in her native grasslands—spotlighting a young girl living tenaciously in a society undergoing radical transformation. The title refers to Tibetan children living on the plateau, a place closest to the sun on earth, in the hopes that they will have a bright future.

About the Filmmaker:Ìý
Khashem Gyal is an award-winning filmmaker from the Amdo region of Tibet. In 2018, he was nominated for the Adeste Gold Medal, recognizing global citizens under 40 who help us ‘dream bigger.’ He is currently an Asia in Action Artist at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University.
DAUGHTER OF THE LIGHT received the ‘Colors of Asia Award’ at the 2017 Tokyo Docs and the Audience Award at the 2020 EIDF Film Festival; it was nominated for the Best Documentary at FIRST International Film Festival.
The Film Screening is sponsored by the Tibet Himalaya Initiative at 91´«Ã½ in collaboration with the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder.
