Your academic record has been carefully reviewed following the posting of grades for the Spring 2026 semester. You have not met the required 2.000 cumulative CU GPA minimum, therefore, you have been placed on academic suspension and a registration hold has been placed on your record.

Academic suspension is serious and we support your effort to improve your academic standing. Please review the options for reinstatement along with actionable next steps you can take below. For more information, view 91��ý’s academic standing requirements.

What Happens on Academic Suspension?

As a result of academic suspension, your current Fall 2026 courses will be dropped with the exception of enrollment in Evening Credit, Online Credit, and Applied Music classes offered through the Division of Continuing Education. Note that if you remain enrolled in Continuing Education courses you will need to maintain a 2.300 semester GPA or above for each enrolled semester in Continuing Education. You will not be eligible to enroll in Main Campus courses during the fall or spring semesters until you have completed the requirements for reinstatement after academic suspension through the options explained below, which includes earning the required 2.000 cumulative CU GPA minimum or returning through conditional enrollment.

As a reminder, a registration hold related to your academic suspension status has been placed on your record and your official transcript will show that you are on academic suspension.

In addition, federal regulations require students to make satisfactory academic progress in a program of study to be eligible for financial aid. For additional information, see the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy webpage.

Options for Reinstatement after Academic Suspension

Please consider the following options available to you for raising your cumulative GPA, and view 91��ý’s academic standing requirements for more detailed information.

Take courses offered through Continuing Education.
Take summer courses at any University of Colorado campus.
Take courses at another accredited college or university.
Take at least one calendar year off with no enrollment at any institution.

Your Next Steps

Log in to Buff Portal to view your holds for more information about your suspension status and next steps specific to your college, school or program. (Learn more about how to resolve your holds & to do items.)
Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor/coach. Your academic advisor will help you explore your options given your individual circumstances and assist you with improving your academic standing.
If applicable, you may view your financial aid status in Buff Portal. Students who have a ‘Suspended’ SAP status can submit an appeal form to request a reinstatement of financial aid.
If you are an international student, contact the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) Office immediately for guidance.

We sent this email at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, to current undergraduate students who took classes in Spring 2026 and were eligible to register for Fall 2026 (multiple exclusions applied).

Dear [first],

Continuing undergraduate registration for Fall 2026 closes May 21 at 11:59 p.m. After May 21, you will not be able to add or edit your classes until the schedule adjustment period opens July 21. For the best chance to get the classes you want, we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

Waitlist processing for Fall 2026 classes will pause starting May 22 and will resume July 21.

Your enrollment status may affect your eligibility for housing, tuition remission, health insurance, financial aid, loan deferment status, purchasing a CU Sports Pass and more. If you're considering dropping below full-time status, contact the applicable offices to find out how this change could affect you.

If you're having difficulty choosing classes or navigating registration, follow these steps to keep moving forward.

Schedule an advising appointment.
Clear any holds that will prevent you from registering.
Complete your preregistration items.
Build your shopping cart.
If a class is closed, join the waitlist and use drop if enrolled on a backup class.
If a class you need is only offered on another CU campus, consider intercampus enrollment.
Finish enrolling in classes.

Your academic record has been carefully reviewed following the posting of grades for the Spring 2026 semester. Unfortunately, your GPA doesn’t meet the required minimum GPA for your reinstatement option and this has resulted in academic dismissal.

What Happens on Academic Dismissal?
As a result of academic dismissal, your current Fall 2026 courses will be dropped. As a reminder, a registration hold related to your academic dismissal status has been placed on your record and your official transcript will show that you are on academic dismissal.

Reinstatement after Academic Dismissal
Students who are placed on academic dismissal are eligible to enroll in summer coursework only. Students who enroll in summer classes following an academic dismissal are reviewed according to the following standards at the close of summer classes:

A student who raises their cumulative CU GPA to at least a 2.000 will return to good academic standing;
A student who earns at least a 2.500 summer term GPA, but who still has a cumulative CU GPA below 2.000, may be considered for an academic performance plan (APP) for a subsequent fall or spring semester;
A student who earns a summer term GPA below 2.500 and whose CU cumulative GPA remains below 2.000 may not enroll again until the following summer term.

Note: While students may take summer courses at any University of Colorado campus, 91��ý does not guarantee admission to the other CU campuses. Grades from all CU coursework are calculated into the cumulative CU GPA.

International students: We've been running into significant delays and complications with international delivery of diplomas and other documents. We strongly advise you to enter a local/domestic diploma address to ensure delivery to yourself or a trusted individual.

We sent this email at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, to first-semester graduate and law students who were classified as nonresidents for tuition purposes.

Dear [first],

According to our records, you’re currently classified as a nonresident (out-of-state) for tuition purposes. As a graduate or law student, you may be eligible to petition for a change to resident (in-state) tuition classification for Summer 2027 if you moved to Colorado on or before May 2, 2026,and you complete the required steps outlined below.

Domicile refers to your true, fixed and permanent home. Establishing domicile requires:

Physical presence (living in Colorado)
Severing legal ties to your previous state
Establishing legal ties to Colorado in a timely manner after your move

Your Next Steps to Qualify for Summer 2027

If you moved to Colorado on or before May 2, 2026, and you plan to petition for in-state tuition for Summer 2027:

Establish Legal Ties to Colorado as Soon as Possible Obtain a Colorado driver’s license or state ID within 120 days of moving.
Change your voter registration to Colorado if you are a registered voter.
Register your vehicle in Colorado within 180 days of moving.
File income taxes as a Colorado resident.
We strongly encourage you to review our Adult Residency Petition Information, graduate student video and graduate student handout for full requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure all criteria are met.
Submit Your Petition
Submit your completed Adult Residency Petition between March 1, 2027 and April 30, 2027 (5 p.m.). Please mark this final deadline on your calendar.
Failure to meet required steps or deadlines will result in denial of your petition, and you will continue to be assessed out-of-state tuition. Maintaining legal ties to another state will also result in denial.

If you moved after May 2, 2026, you may be eligible to petition for a change to resident classification for Fall 2027 or another future term. See our website for dates and deadlines related to other upcoming terms.

Important Considerations

International students with student visas (e.g., F-1, F-2, H-3, J-1, M-1, M-2) generally do not qualify for in-state tuition and should contact our office before submitting a petition.
WRGP participants should not change domicile or submit a petition. This program already provides reduced tuition for eligible students in select programs.

Effective Spring 2022, grade replacement is applied automatically at the end of each semester when a student repeats an eligible course, and there is no longer a limit to the number of credit hours students can use for grade replacement. However, some academic programs have limits on the number of course repeats allowed for specific courses or number of attempts for degree applicability.

Note: Grade replacement may be revoked by action of the Office of Student Conduct if an honor code violation is found to have occurred.

About Your Transcript & GPA

Remember, under grade replacement the grade you earned in your most recent prior attempt will still appear on your transcript, but it will be replaced in your cumulative GPA and credit totals by the grade from your latest attempt as long as that grade is the same or better.
