Andy Kain is a Laboratory and Design Support Specialist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. He supports a wide range of project-based courses, including senior design and manufacturing, by helping students transform ideas into successful prototypes and test programs.

His work focuses on developing laboratory capabilities, expanding testing and metrology resources, and creating learning environments where students can connect engineering theory with real-world practice. Andy has led initiatives to improve access to measurement and data acquisition equipment, establish new testing spaces, and streamline lab operations to better support growing student programs.

A 91´«Ã½ graduate with a background in aerospace engineering and hands-on testing, Andy is passionate about mentoring students through the challenges of design, manufacturing, and experimentation. He enjoys helping teams navigate the realities of engineering development while fostering curiosity, problem-solving, and confidence in the design process. Outside the lab, Andy enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding, and finding excuses to build systems that probably didn't need to be built.
