Lecturer Appointments

Each semester, the ATLAS Institute hires lecturers to teach a variety of courses to undergraduate and graduate students on topics in engineering, creative technology and design. Lecturers are hired on a semester-by-semester/course-by-course basis and are not permanent faculty, but are nevertheless highly valued members of the ATLAS Institute and participate in academic community activities beyond classroom teaching.

Examples of some courses we offer for lecturers to teach include:

  • Big Data Architecture
  • Computational Foundations
  • Physical Computing
  • User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX)
  • Full-stack Web Development
  • Mixed Reality (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality)

Qualifications: Lecturers must have a graduate degree and/or advanced experience in their field of expertise that qualifies them to teach the particular course(s) for which they are hired.

Requirements: Your key responsibilities will be teaching in person, online or a combination specific to the course.

Compensation: As of January 1, 2026, compensation is $10,000 per 3-credit and 4-credit courses, depending on the teaching assignment and lecturer’s qualifications. This amount will be prorated for 1 credit courses.

Benefits:ÌýÌýAppointments of 50% or greater are eligible for benefits with the exception of retirement benefits as outlined on theÌý.ÌýThese appointments are temporary in nature and candidates are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. Temporary faculty appointments are eligible for accrued sick time. Sick time is earned on a prorated basis. This position is eligible for employee sick leave earned monthly on a prorated basis. Temporary titles for those who teach on a course-by-course basis are inclusive ofÌýLecturer, (less than 50% time appointment) andÌýInstructional Associate (equal to or over 50% time appointment or those that have an active 3-year clock).

If hired as an Instructional Associate, this will start a 3-year clock and after that time they will be ineligible to be hired that way again. The clock will be based on the first start date as an Instructional Associate and will not pause with any break in appointment or reduction in FTE.
